Qi Duan

Qi Duan, Ph.D., is the Program Director for the Division of Health Informatics Technologies at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University in 2008, where he conducted research in medical imaging and image analysis at the Heffner Biomedical Imaging Lab.

Prior to joining NIBIB in 2018, Dr. Duan worked at the New York University School of Medicine, NIH, and FDA, focusing on medical imaging, image analysis, and medical device regulation. Dr. Duan's expertise spans multiple medical imaging modalities—including ultrasound, MRI, X-ray, and CT—as well as bioengineering applications. At NIBIB, his work addresses various aspects of the total product lifecycle for medical imaging technologies, with a strong focus on advancing artificial intelligence and machine learning in healthcare.

He is a senior member of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and actively serves on the steering committee and editorial board for the IEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine (JTEHM).
