Biography

Dr. Eric A. Hoffman, Ph.D., is a Professor of Radiology, Medicine, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He directs the Advanced Pulmonary Physiomic Imaging Laboratory (APPIL), specializing in quantitative imaging techniques for studying lung physiology and pathophysiology, particularly related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Dr. Hoffman pioneered the use of high-speed CT imaging to analyze the structure-function relationships in the lung and has developed imaging methods widely used in research and clinical applications.

He is also a co-founder of VIDA Diagnostics, a company commercializing lung image analysis software. Over his career, Dr. Hoffman has received numerous awards, including the Joseph R. Rodarte Award for Scientific Distinction and the Alton Ochsner Award for research on smoking-related diseases. His work has significantly advanced understanding of pulmonary diseases and imaging methodologies globally.
