Biography
Dr. Ramin Parsey, MD, PhD, is the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Stony Brook University's Renaissance School of Medicine and Director of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Research. His work focuses on neuroimaging, particularly using PET and MRI, to study brain abnormalities related to psychiatric conditions such as depression. He has developed innovative imaging methods, including novel radiotracers and advanced image processing techniques.
Previously, Dr. Parsey was affiliated with Columbia University, where he served as a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Director of the Brain Imaging Facility. He collaborated with the Heffner Biomedical Imaging Laboratory (HBIL) at Columbia on projects involving molecular imaging and neuropathology. His research has been continuously funded by the NIH and aims to improve understanding and treatment of mental health disorders through imaging biomarkers.
