Biography
Dr. Srilaxmi Bearelly is a board-certified retina specialist at Columbia University with extensive expertise in treating conditions like age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other retinal disorders. She began her clinical career on the Vitreoretinal Service at Duke University (2003–2010) and joined Columbia’s faculty in 2010. Dr. Bearelly has cared for thousands of patients and volunteered in underserved regions, including El Salvador and rural U.S. areas.
She holds an M.D. and undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and an MHS from Duke, where she also completed her fellowship in retinal diseases. A prolific researcher, she has authored over 70 scientific works and presents internationally. Her current research focuses on retinal changes in preeclampsia. Dr. Bearelly has earned numerous honors, including Castle Connolly’s Top Doctor and Exceptional Women in Medicine awards, and prestigious NIH career development grants. She is an active member of leading ophthalmology societies.
