Biography
Thomas Vetterli is a Swiss biomedical engineer who completed his Master of Science degree at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), focusing on biomedical engineering and data science for life sciences.
As part of his master's program, Vetterli undertook a six-month research internship at Columbia University's Heffner Biomedical Imaging Lab (HBIL). During this period, he worked on deep learning methods to extract diagnostically relevant features from imaging data.
Following his academic pursuits, Vetterli advanced his career in the biotechnology sector. He held positions as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Freenome and Berkeley Lights, where he contributed to the development of machine learning and bioinformatics platforms for early cancer detection and single-cell automation.
Currently, Thomas Vetterli serves as the Director of Machine Learning and Bioinformatics at Hedera Dx, an oncology company specializing in liquid biopsy testing. In this role, he leads a team dedicated to developing next-generation sequencing (NGS) tumor monitoring pipelines for liquid biopsies, aiming to enhance clinical actionability in cancer diagnostics.
