Biography

Dr. Wei Shen is the Director of the Image Analysis Lab and Associate Director of the Body Composition Unit at the New York Obesity Nutrition Research Center. With 12 years of experience in body composition research, she specializes in MRI and MRS techniques. Dr. Shen developed protocols for imaging various types of adipose tissue and validated 3-D tissue volume models and optimal MRI slice locations for quantification in both adults and children. Her NIH-funded research focuses on the health risks associated with visceral fat in children and marrow fat's role in bone loss. Current projects explore fat measurement using MRI, bone health in pregnant women, and lean tissue changes during weight loss. She has collaborated on studies involving conditions like insulin resistance, Acromegaly, Cushing’s disease, osteoporosis, and HIV infection.
